Longleat 10k

From Jo:  So today saw our next club championship race - t Longleat 10k & despite the horendous weather the club did us proud with a fantastic tune out. In fact I think we had the most club members for this event . We were all managing with the gale force winds but I think the driving rain that started just a little before the start challenged us!! It was also really quite cold in the driving rain . Katie Stokes realised on route when she saw us with our numbers that maybe she hadn’t actually entered this sold out race . She was correct, she hadn’t!! Thankfully after a quick call the marshals very great in metering her & giving her an umber. Sam Jakeman did a Stirling job in the awful conditions supporting us even if his didn’t cope so well in the wind, thanks Sam . Due to the weather apart from being patient in the coffee & hot drinks queue that saw some of us waiting longer than we actually ran for, most of us headed off quite quickly. I am sure there were some fantastic times posted & some PB’s achieved but we will have to wait for the official results. My Strava had a paddy in the weather & only clocked 2.9 miles but trust me, my legs tell me a did a fast, hilly 10k.

Well done all from Yeovil Town RRC & those that supported, let’s just hope to see the weather improve for our next championship race which is Lytchett 10 miler

From Margarita:  Wet isn't the word. A wet, windy and hilly Longleat 10k & 2 miler. I've done this race a few time but never in those conditions. Lovely to see a fab club turnout. Well done everyone who ran today.

North Dorset Marathon

From Linda:  North Dorset Marathon - Relay Team for YTRRC. 4th May 2025.  I'm just putting it out there and I know this clashes with Kevin Doherty planned Ham to Lyme walk.

This is a great event if you are not sure about doing a marathon and would prefer to be in a team. You can have between 2-4 people in your team. You can do maybe do a leg and then have a rest and pick up another leg on route??

You and your team will need to organise your transport, so you can get to the change over points on time. It's very doable. (easier if you have a driver to ferry you and your team around)

If you are interested, let me know. I'm not 100% sure yet if I'm going to run this one as I'm tempted in the walk.

Weekend Running

From Mags: 20 mile training run for me and Leigh this morning. If I said it was nice I'd be lying  we set off with an aim to run at 8:30min for sub 3hrs and we did, regardless of the chellenging weather. Nice to have had wind helping on way out, not so nice to run against it on way back. However, overall we can't complain. Job done.

From Tim:  Cavity trays Saturday morning run took a flattish 10k route down to Lysander and back along Westland footpath. A crisp morning with a few icy patches and glorious sunshine. Two running groups and a walking group ventured out.

Next Saturday we plan to run 10k of the Yeovil half route with the weather deciding if we do town or Monty route. All welcome.

From Graham: Big group at Yeovilton this morning , getting those all imported miles done. To say the weather was horrendous after this picture was taken is an understatement . Fair play to all those that kept going!!!

From Helen: Sunday Club Run complete - possibly the wettest  coldest  windiest one yet! But we got it done  well done team  especially those doing an extra 3-4 miles before our 10.

From Ali: A very wet and windy run this morning for the 10K group. Well done to everyone racing or running today as the weather conditions weren’t good.

Blackdown Beast

From Kirsty: Blackdown Beast. I did the 10 mile option. Starting from Dunkeswell airfield running 7 miles to a village hall. Pasties and mulled cider stop then a further 3 miles to the Sidmouth Arms. Where a mini bus was waiting to take the ten mile runners back to the airfield. 16 mile runners continued to finish at the airfield. A social run, not timed. The event raised £4K for Macmillan Cancer Support charity.

Dark and Dirty

From Ann: My self, Matthew Bambury, rose Bambury and ruby palmer traveled to Bovington camp to do the dark and dirty 10k we had 90 minutes to do it in which i was very nervous at as rose was not well and ruby had never done a 10k bèfore but they both smashed it and done amazing so proud of them both future yeovil town runners for sure. It was a brilliant course mud gravel and a lot of large puddles and mud with a very cheaky hill at the end. My self and quiet a few other racers done just over an extra mile as we went wrong oops but totally enjoyed it bring on more of these Events greats marshals and a great team that runs the event.

Park Runs

From Taryn: From the Carribean heat to chilly Somerset Saturday and Five Arches PR- a little icy underfoot in some places I wasn’t last but ran steady today, as I return to getting out there again!

From Adam: Eastleigh Park Run - pleasant, three lap course all on grass - however yesterday very wet, muddy and slippery! However sunny weather, cafe and free parking! My 310th Park Run.

From Helen: Massive Congratulations to Sarah Farrant for reaching her 50th Parkrun milestone at Weymouth this morning … finally !! And happy birthday to Dom for yesterday too . Lovely morning out to celebrate, with great company, all enjoying a yummy brekki at The Wishing Well Tearooms after.

From Beryl: Just the three of us at Frogmary Green Farm parkrun with two dozen of Welsh frogs! At times felt like I was running on a treadmill not going anywhere! Super slippery and slidey! Another parkrun in the bag… that brings it to a total of …12

From Mafalda: After a complicated week I was still able to make it up north with Mr Watson. And what to do on a Saturday morning when you are away?

Preston Parkrun is a busy one with 525 running/ walking today. Lovely course through 2 parks, by the river and under the train tracks. It does have a "nice" hill right at the start, that you only have to do 3 times . I for sure enjoyed and really needed it
