A Day in the Mud

A Day in the Mud

Bristol Half and 10k

From Hollie:  Completed my first half marathon in the blazin’ heat of Bristol.  What an experience! Met some amazing people! Happy with my time, my legs and my lungs for getting me through! Gave Graham Still a little cheer along the way!

From Graham: A super hot Bristol half marathon. Gill was 3rd lady overall, followed by the club captain, Jon, Joseph and Hollie who ran her first half marathon in an amazing time. A great atmosphere all the way round.

Hollie

From Kevin: Did Bristol 10k today dressed as a sheep to raise funds for 2 Sheep we've bought locally which will be transported to Kent tomorrow to live a Happy long life in an Animal Sanctuary,, it was very warm and I'm just not fit enough a great day out though.

Beer Blazer

From Helen:  What a beautiful sunny day for todays Beer Blazer event some of us completing the 10 miler and others the 5 miler. A lovely social morning on one of the most beautiful scenic courses around, albeit tough will huge hills to climb, a long stretch on the pebbly beach and up the stairway to heaven! Rewarded with yummy mini egg brownies at the end followed by the most refreshing sea swim and laze on the beach oh and a cider in a beer garden ! What a fab Sunday.

Town Tree Trail

From Adam: Town Tree Trail next Wednesday evening - marshals needed urgently please, including at least two people to run the Water Stop in the middle of the trail. If you can't or don't want to run but could help please let me know.

Wednesday 7.00pm - Many thanks to everyone who has already volunteered to help at the race. This is unique mainly off-road race through apple orchards, fields and the beautiful 'hidden 'Town Tree Nature Garden. There is still time to enter, entries also accepted on the day.

Chairman's 5k handicap' - This Tuesday around the Lufton Loop - please come with an 'honest' estimate of your 5k time. The slowest will start at about 6.35pm with the fastest going last. If everyone's estimate was accurate you would all finish at the same time!!!

Thanks

Adam

Dare Valley Trail Marathon

From Gareth:  Dare Valley Trail Marathon 3924ft, 27.01 miles 5hrs 12mins.

Dorset Mud Run

From Anita:  After the enjoyment of last years Dorset mud run, Matt Drivers class of 2023 turned up again with the anticipation of more sun and the hope he is back next year to assist the troops. We missed you Matt Driver (I had to keep my shoes on as there was nobody to rescue them)

Michaela and Dom did the non-muddy10am early recky of the course to report back to the Yeovil ladies main contingent starting at 11.15. (everyone knows to wait for the mud) The weather was perfect, no rain, no wind, the ground wasnt churned up or slippy, and the 'water features' were pleasenty warm. Unfortunately for Michaela some of the obstacles wernt designed for her 4ft 10 frame, but she managed to complete everything apart from the pesky monkeybars, and somehow fell over less times than on her participation of saints hill the previous sunday.

Reporting back to the main 11.15 contigent, all the pre run signs were good, spirits were high, photos were a plenty, and Anita Garrett gave a rousing motivational speech to the troops, before they got down to the business end with a well drilled warm-up.

With Michaella and Dom already holding their finishing shirts and cider, they waved the ladies off. It was at that point they made the tatical decision to run straight to the car, due to the biblical downpour with a hint of thunder and lightning which coincided almost perfectly for the 11.15 start.

The rest of us most definitely got rained on and there was SO MUCH MUD, some of us struggled to just stand up! So many obstacles, so much water, so much fun....until next year when hopefully the inflatable is back, as is Matt Driver!

P.S. Apologies Ann Grace for attempting to wipe you out as I plummeted straight back down the muddy slide I had (almost) conquered. Thanks Dom Rowe for the original post, I hope you don't mind me giving it a tweak!

Camelot Challenge 10k and Half Marathon

From June: The YTRRC line up for the Camelot Challenge 10k and Half Marathon.

From Ann: Definitely loved the camelot 10k even the extra 2 and a bit miles I didn't mind doing from getting lost as it was a really nice run . Loved seeing all the yeovil runners taking part in the 10k and half marathon . Definitely will do thw half next year.

From Margarita: So for someone who doesn't like mud and hills it was another trail run today. 3 of us from the club chose the 10km whilst the other chose the half marathon distance, some got lost and some stayed on track. It was a lovely sunny day for a muddy run with lots of hills.

Weekend Running

From Andy:  A small (but perfectly formed ;-)) Sunday morning 10m group run from Goldenstones with Tim recommending the Trent loop, despite a late night out! We headed off in beautiful weather, Poppy peeled off back just at the right time ahead of the water, and on return we had clocked up over 11 miles Great run and great company as always, looking forward to reading up on the many races ongoing this weekend! Enjoy the sun while it lasts.

From Mark:  Sunday Slow and Steady. Run round Yeovil in the sunshine with Lynne, Tara, and David. Tea and cake after with Phil, at Nine Springs.

Park Runs

From Helen:  Not a bad morning turn out for Frogmary Parkrun

From Jo: So we had a girlie road trip to hunt down our “Q” this morning. Quakers Walk parkrun it was followed by the normal breakfast!! This is a really friendly Parkrun, three laps of reasonably flat paths & a great one for seeing everyone as you go up, down & around. We then had a fantastic breakfast at Cocdado Lounge in Devizes. Thanks Linda Membury for organising, booking & driving!! Thanks to all for the great company & a lovely morning. Special mention has to go to Mel Dodge for a PB run.

PUB RUN – KINGSBURY EPISCOPI – TOWN TREE TRAIL RECCE – (16TH MAY 2024)

From Mark:  After heavy rain the group gathered at Kingsbury Episcopi community centre. Adam organised, planned, and led the route.

Under grey skies we left, and headed north along the road. Turning right we went off road and made our way through apple orchards and along the River Parrett. There were options to make up extra distance. We entered fields, crossed a disused railway line, and entered the Town Tree Trail via the back gate. As we ran around the trail we passed lakes, crossed foot bridges, and stopped at various places for photographs. The paths were wet and muddy in places, but the vegetation had been cut back. This part of the run is always very atmospheric. Leaving by the back gate, we made our way back to the community centre by much the same route.

For the pub meal, we moved to the Rusty Axe at Stembridge, just over a mile down the road to the west. 19 of us were there for the meal. It was also Louise’s birthday, and a cake was presented and shared out after the main course.

Thanks Adam for organising this event. Thanks Mel, Alison, Adam, and Linda, for the photos.
