A Giant at Martock

A Giant at Martock

Giants Head Weekend

From Eleanor: Giants Head Sydling Hill race another fab local race, hilly in places but fabulous views. So over dressed for the cold and rain start that turned into sunshine and wind. Mostly run on my own but joined several runners from Chippenham that made the rest of the race very enjoyable with humour. Lovely to see some of the marathon runners come in but didn’t see any other Yeovil Town runners though. All done for the medal and the famous ice cream at the end.

From Ann: A fair size group of us done giants head marathon a first for a few of us ,and what a marathon just a few little hills but the views were amazing and having Yeovil Town RRC behind you Is amazing I would not have ever imagined I could achieve something like this with out you all and the support everyone gives each other is really something else.

From Margarita: So Joanna Samuel mentioned a few weeks ago that the Giants Head Weekend 2024 Half Marathon had spaces. So it was a toss up between doing the road Martock 10km or a trail. So as I'm trying to get used to trail, I chose the Giants Head, also because who doesn't want a willy medal. Lovely to see Jo, Debbie Rennard and Chris Homeward. The race started in the village and then went uphill. Debbie and Chris set off like pocket rockets. Jo and I kept overtaking each other until she also shot off as well. A hard, hilly, hot race but with cracking views. Never saw the Cerne Abbas Giant though.

Dorset Maverick

From Tim: It’s June, It’s summer, it will be lovely to do a coastal run. The event was a sell out and very crowded which made passing people difficult along the coast path. It was a hilly, very scenic route with gusting 40 mph winds and rain on the way round. The YTRRC runners did the medium distance 16km. Tim Willis ran in the canicross with Honey with the main runners, Sharon Hardy and Harry Toulson having a 15 min head start. It was like chasing the fugitives. I didn’t catch Harry who had a great run. Sharon knocked 20 mins off her time from last time we ran it. Honey received a medal to add to her collection.

From Graham: A fantastic turnout and some incredible times recorded today!!!

PUB RUN – ASH – (13TH JUNE 2024)

From Mark:  With a drop in temperature, and some wind and drizzle it did not feel like a summer evening run. Four of us (June, Louise, JC, and myself) left the pub and started out on a clockwise loop. We ran against the wind along Martock lane, and down into Martock. At the triangle, we stopped for photos, and met Guy and Fez. Continuing northward up the main street, we reached the petrol station, and crossed over. We continued along Coat road, and out to Coat. Turning right, we ran to the traffic lights at Stapleton Cross, and climbed through Highway, back up to Ash. JC, and myself continued the run making a figure of eight route, running a loop around the village and back to the pub.

Thanks Phil for organising. There were seven of us eating afterwards. The food was good.
