Brent Knowll
From Eleanor: Brent Knoll Race what an event thanks to storm Bert we had a wet and windy journey up and knew the course would be interesting.
Lots of speedy runners so I knew I’d be at the back but I had the lovely Gemma and Katie to walk / run with so I knew we would have a laugh and have fun.
Slippy and slidey pretty much most the course and lots of squeaks and squelching and rivers for paths to wash yourself off in. Grabbing grass to hold onto as you climbed up the hill. Thankfully we all managed to stay upright but many didn’t.
A big thank you to the Burnham-On-Sea Harriers marshals standing in the weather to cheer us on and the lovely trail runner who gave us tips on which side of mud to try
Weekend Running
From Gareth: So…… 10 hardcore individuals travelled to Ham Hill, determined to not let Storm Bert stop our training plans. It was very damp, extremely windy and the hail stones on the final mile almost finished us off. There were several falls and many slips (Mags still managed to stay on her feet). Thank you to Maggie and Leigh for the awesome photography. There were so many to choose from I was spoilt for choice. Great running everyone. I think I can guarantee that next Sundays race conditions will definitely be better than they were today.
From Lesley: A wet and wild Sunday club run this morning although it could have been worse! Well done to all for turning up. We kept to roads around town but even that wasn't easy with lots of debris on the paths and the headwind on Lyde Road was horrendous. There was a fair amount of stopping while we deliberated which way to go and whether to shorten it but we ended up doing 8.70 miles . Coffee at the cafe after and my shortbread seemed to go down well.
From Sharon: An invigorating run this morning joined by Storm Bert. Well done all for braving the storm. Great running. Thanks to Mel Cox for this morning's route.
Park Runs
From Paul: Wet, very windy and an hour away, who wouldn’t? So we did …
After Lymington Woodside was cancelled due to atrocious weather, we seriously considered staying in bed. But no, we found another L in the form of Lee-on-the-Solent and decided to get up even earlier and travel there (in the wind and rain). After all, a beach side promenade Parkrun in a storm sounds like fun, right? An out and back course gave us both our 1 mile PBs but a real struggle running into the oncoming 50 mile an hour winds (see the videos). Pretty good times overall, and as always, you never regret doing it, do you … ? Celebrated by stopping on the way back for a chocolate orange hot chocolate, cappuccino, ham and cheese toasty, and pain au raisin.
From Matt: Bidiford parkrun this morning for my annual parkrun along with Trev Strelley, thanks for getting me out there Trev for my Birthday run. 6 laps of the park on mainly wide paths with a few twists and turns and a couple of little humps. Storm Bert seems to of put runners off this morning but it would take a lot more than a bit of wind and rain to stop Trevor doing his parkrun. Enjoyed the run this morning and back in the 80% age graded
From Trevor: Bideford Parkrun done before storm Bert arrived! Route with 6 laps! With birthday boy Mat Sparkes.
From Adam: Three of us travelled to Upton House parkrun for our u - unfortunately cancelled so braved a wet and very windy Poole Park Run.
From Margarita: A few of us mad folk did The Great Field parkrun. Windy & wet.
From Taryn: #250 parkrun DONE @ Lydiard Park. Storm Bert kind to us here. Celebrated with family Banners, support all the way round and team taking pics and providing cakes- Thankyou
Pub Run - Mosterton - 21 Nov 2024
From Mark: Arriving to a car park covered with a layer of frozen snow, and very slippery, meant we were neither running or walking tonight.
So 7 of us (Steve, Kate, Guy, Ann, Phil, Matt, and myself just went for an early meal. The Pie and help yourself veg, was great as usual. Thanks Phil for organising.
