Forest Flyer

From Ann: My self and Beata Zuchowska-Marsh ran the forest flyer tonight at haldon forest. what a beautiful evening it was an amazing course was mostly trail with a little road the views were amazing . There was some lovely down hills and a few flat areas but oh my god the last mile was a hell of a hill it nearly kills you. @beata zuchowska-marsh what a woman only having had her little boy 11 weeks ago she done amazing and smashed this tricky trail race

National Trust 19k

From Kirsty: National Trust 10k Stourhead. Nat Robins and myself running circular loop to Alfred's Tower and back.

Weekend Running

From Mags: Little revisit to Matt Driver route for trail gang today. The river wasn't as deep as last time, but the hills were much more challenging!

From Helen: Beautiful morning for our 10miler this morning - nice finishing through the cooler riverside walk good effort team! Shame same can’t be said about my sunken not up to standard Biscoff sponge

From Tim:  Cavity trays run. A good turn out in good weather with various pace runners. Started in two groups running towards Montycute splitting when we reached the Lodge. Dave Mears led his group into Monty and up Balls Hill keeping to the road. I led the faster group into the park following the park run route and out towards Windmill Farm. We stayed off the roads.

Thanks for a socialable fun run around the countryside.

Park Runs

From Margarita: When in Bristol for a couple days, why not do a bit of parkrun tourism. Getting into this parkrun thing.

From Trevor: Shepton Mallet team photo I guess everyone was at Frogmary

From Louise: As I was already in Weston it would have been rude not to do Marine Parade Parkrun. The summer route is entirely on sand, sinking with every step made it energy sapping but it was enjoyable on such a beautiful morning. A very friendly event with lots of barefoot runners.

PUB RUN – SOUTH PETHERTON – (25TH JULY 2024)

From Mark:  A good number of people arrived for the pub run tonight.

Sue led, and had a route for the not so fast group comprising (Sue, Paul, Simon, Nikki, JC, Rachael, Lawrie, Rob, Louise, and myself).

Sue’s very interesting well thought out route was mostly off-road going around the outside of South Petherton, in a clockwise loop. Leaving the pub and running past the church we headed southwards. Turning right we followed a path along Hele, and to the south of Broadmead. We joined a road at Moor, and then ran along Moondown Lane, which is a track running alongside the A303. Turning right we ran up the road then went off-road going along Whitfield Lane. Back in the village we headed towards Compton Durville, but turned right and went off-road again. We continued along a path called Barcroft Lane and turned right. Back in the village we passed the hospital and continued along Hamsfield lane which is a track. At the end we turned right into Bridge Way. Turning left we ran off-road then onto South Street, where we made our way back.

It was a hot humid run in sunshine, and my hat ended up soaked. Also, the group was not hanging around. The fields of maize gave added interest.

Thanks Sue for this memorable run, and thanks Phil for organising. The pub meal afterwards was very welcome.

Maden Newton 10k

From Jo:  Another mid week school night local run saw a great turn out from the green & whites. May have had something to do with it being a club championship race!! Yet again I was near the back so it is a little hard for a full write up. All I know is several people said “I am just taking it easy tonight” but then smashed it, didn’t they Stephen Warren?!!!!

I have no idea who came where but everyone did really well over this new course. We were very lucky with the weather. As we left Yeovil the rain came down. As we ran it stayed dry. As we drove back into Yeovil the rain was still coming down!!

It was lovely to see our good friend Terry Byrne who had put in some miles just to get to the race. A special mention to Beata Zuchowska-Marsh who ran well despite only having little Charlie 10 weeks ago.

Well done all, we did our club proud
