The Santa is Back

The Santa is Back

The Santa Dash

From Steve: Well a really lovely day this morning at the Santa Dash. A massive thanks to everyone who turned up to help and ran too . The morning started early and it was still dark when the early birds started loading there cars and the first to arrive were ahead of schedule and started the prep before eight as planned. On the day we had a reasonable uptake too and around 55 actually entered although not all turned up unfortunately. Teas, coffees and lots of lovely cakes were available and with the help of Mike Shead and his family and our fabulous band of helpers I think everyone had a really lovely morning while hopefully raising much needed funds for the Yeovil Hospital Breast Cancer Scanner Unit. Obviously covid times may well have discouraged many people from turning up but hopefully next year we will be back bigger and better and we will try and find some sponsors too . Lastly a massive thank you to liz and golden stones for helping and hosting the event, ok hopefully I haven’t missed anybody out.

Our Bench

We hit a mile stone on our Bench on Google Maps, don't forget to check in when ever you are up there.

The Extremely Jolly 10k

From Sue: A muddy morning out at The Extremely Jolly 10k (plus a bit), the course is an undulating run across tracks and through woods with a 35m water slide around 8k, fancy dress optional but most people were suitably fancy, happy to have done 2minutes faster than two years ago, coming in at 1. 23.58, George was a last minute entry and took second place in 52.26(crazy). Saw Kate Gowers out on the course. A great way to get in the Christmas spirit, fantastic snow globe medal and fleecy buff.

PUB RUN – WEST CAMEL (9TH December 2021)

From Mark: In our group there were 5 (Sue, Lesley, JC, Louise and myself). The fast group comprised Dan, Kev, and Mark P. Phil ran alone. The low pressure and onset of rain towards the end brought a more mild temperature. The route comprised two loops, firstly eastward. We ran south to the junction then turned left and left again. This narrow muddy lane went through Wales and came out at Queen Camel. We ran through Queen Camel along the main road, and turned to run westward. At the fourth turning on the right, we ran down Chantry lane and passed Phil coming up. We continued back to West Camel, and turned right crossing the bridge over the river Cam. Turning right and running up Southmead we passed Phil again coming towards us. Two left turns and we were running back to the pub. As usual a welcoming pub with good food at the end.

PUB RUN – SHEPTON BEAUCHAMP (2ND December 2021)

From Mark: Thanks to Sue tonight for planning and leading an interesting route and for giving some local history. Sue’s group comprised Sue, Louise, Lesley, J.C. and myself. The faster group was bigger tonight, and Phil ran alone. We left the pub running in darkness up a narrow muddy lane generally going west. We continued until reaching Stocklinch (Stocklinch St Magdelen and Stocklinch Ottersey). We stopped outside the small church where Sue gave a brief talk regarding some interesting history about the two parish churches. We continued to Atherstone then climbed up to Hurcott. I’m pretty sure we had been here on previous pub runs where a wooden giraffe stood behind the stone wall of the farm. I didn’t see it tonight although it could have been somewhere else? We descended in the darkness to strange bright lights ahead. It was the potato processing plant. We continued to the bridge over the A303, and turned left. After a while we turned left, and this wet muddy lane took us back into Shepton Beauchamp. A nice pub again with good food. Thanks all, and Phil for organising.

Street 5k Series

From Adam: Some of the YTRRC runners at this evening’s wet Street 5k. Category winners for Kevin Stenner and Malcolm Maxted. The usual slow time for me but I made it!

The Full Monty

From Lesley: A pleasant morning at the Full Monty race (well walk/run race ). Lots of mud, sliding and puddles on the course but not as bad as some years. Lots of support from Yeovil members, not mentioning names as I'll be sure to forget someone. Thanks for the company Linda - you loved it really . Well done everyone, there were some good times out there today.
