Newton Abbot Ladies 10k
From Jo: Well, what can I say…. The rain stopped - once we had all finished !! 21 of us green & whites ladies were safely driven down to Newton Abbot by Adam & Triss Samuel of which we are all very grateful for. Thank you gents
Despite the rain, it was not cold so none of us were stood shivering in the very long toilet que, of which some of us braved more than once. Helen Nesbitt & Lesley Nesbitt were not cold stood in the PRE Race cake que! The rain didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits & out of the cricket club & off up the lane to the start we all went. It was a narrow lane & this did cause a fair bit of congestion at the start but we all picked our way through & found our comfortable spaces in which to run. Now for once I actually read the race instructions - “Gently undulating through country lanes”……. I, & 20 other club menders beg to differ - it was BLOODY HILLY!!!! You do NOT put a sign out that says “Bitch Hill” on a gently undulating race!! Did anyone else pose for the camera person on the hill only to get closer & find out it was a scare crow? Asking for a friend!!!
Today was all about taking part & us ladies really showed how it was done today. We all turned up, took on the challenging 10k route in the pouring rain & we all won & did both ourselves & our club proud. Well done to Nikki who came first in her age catagory & let’s celebrate Nikki, Deanna Coles, Vicky & Suzanne Conlon for bagging the third team prize
A huge thank you to our ladies captain, the one & only Linda Membury for not only organising this event for us, but for also booking the minibus. We were all so relieved early this morning when we got to the football club to find a mini bus & not a mini car . After we had all filled our faces on what was another super snack / buffet spread, the gents kindly delivered us all safely back home A great morning, a great event & a great club.
Winchester Half
From Richard: An early start for our trip to Winchester with Jeff Watson , Nolan Lewis and myself running and Mafalda Santos as YTRRC cheerleader and support crew. This was a really good event on closed roads with circa 900 runners starting and finishing in the picturesque centre of historical Winchester,. A rude awakening awaits with virtually all of the first 2 to 3 miles uphill as we left the city and out into the Hampshire countryside. A very nice route with lots of random support on the way round blowing whistles and banging drums clearly placed there by the organisers to provide encouragement on the quiet country roads. What goes up must come down which made for negative splits for all as we made our way back into the city centre with nearly all the last 4 miles downhill or flat.
I was first Yeovil home in 1:46:20 (4th in age category) followed by Nolan in 1:50:43 and Jeff close behind in 1:51:04 we also bumped into ex YTRRC member Harriet Quast who now resides in Winchester and ran the race.
Weather was kind for the race but wow did it rain on the journey home! All in all a worthwhile trip and a good event.
Black Hill Trail 10K Run
From Tim: When Kirsty Norman messaged me about this run in Bere Regis last weekend the forecast was staying dry. Wow what a change. This totally off road trail run up and down Black Hill using narrow pathways which had become streams with 6” of mud. It didn’t help that I started 10 minutes behind the main race, I was running with Honey in the canicross, the paths were well churned up. It was great fun. Kirsty finished in just over the hour with me catching her just before the line in just under the hour. I did take a finish photo with Kirsty but my skills of taking selfies and mud on the lens saw to that.
Conquest of Avalon
From Taryn: Conquest of Avalon 2024 Done
Thankyou to run buddy Lisa Hallett getting me around - navigating and we were both always on the look out for the red and white tape! The weather was very kind to us all- with the morning mist and low cloud we did wonder if we would see the tor at all!
The hills kept giving and Glastonbury Tor no exception- amazing views at every summit. Supporters and aid stations amazing. Foot sore at the end- but done for a hat.
From Mags: Conquest of Avalon 30 today. 1st Lady for me and 9th overall. Leigh is super chuffed to get around without crashing as he hasn't done any long distance running this year and it was his 1st and only race in 2024.
From Terry: Conquest of Avalon 30Mile Ultra My first one!! Well done to all the YTRRC Runners.
Park Runs
From Louise: Street Parkrun for Rach, Steve and I. Started off as light rain and by the 3rd lap of the fields it was very heavy rain so we got a soaking and very grassy trainers. Rach and I ran together, we didn't exactly over exert ourselves so we were amused we both got 1st in our age categories.
From Jo: Another fantastic morning at Upton House parkrun so a few of us could get our “U”!! Really like this course & was happy to finish 15th female with 349 park runners. We obviously then found our way to The Potting Shed for what was a really lovely breakfast. The entertainment in the car was questionable at times, I am not too sure if I felt sorry for Helen Nesbitt having to sit in between Robert Adams & Tony Nesbitt or if my sympathy was for the gents!! Still, it was lovely to have Lesley Nesbitt sat up front with me!! Great morning with great company as always.
From Tina: Lovely morning at st Mary’s for Claire’s 200th parkrun. Unexpectedly sunny, dry and hot!
From Margarita: Parkrun at Frogmary today. Colins first parkrun after several photos think we managed to capture everyone.
PUB RUN – MOSTERTON – (19TH SEPTEMBER 2024)
From Mark: This was Phil’s 80th birthday Pub Run.
There was just JC and myself in the not so fast group tonight. Others were running faster or walking. We did the usual clockwise loop, but cut a bit off to avoid darkness without head torches.
We ran south through the village, and west to Littlewindsor. Turning right, and right again we descended, then climbed to Sea borough. The sun was setting, and light was dimming. Suddenly it felt good to be out there running along the Monarch’s Way. We passed a group of runners from another club. Later, to cut the run a little short we climbed the track and path to the top of Knowle Hill. This was probably a mistake as the track was wet and muddy. At the top it was lighter again as we got out of the vegetation onto the road. The last leg was the undulating Mosterton Down Lane and descent back down to the village.
It was Pie Night, and we had the choice of pie with help yourself vegetables, which is always good. Thanks Phil for organising.
