Brighton Marahon
From Dan: Brighton Marathon completed in 3:26. In absolute glorious Sunshine. That’s 3 sub 3:30 marathons in a row this year. Hard works seems to be paying off.
Southampton Marathon
From Steve: Did I say never again….?!
I thought London 2023 was to be my last marathon, but 2 years later the memories of the pain have gone, well almost! (turns out I had Covid and it didn’t go to plan) so I thought well perhaps one more marathon.
So a Saturday afternoon drive down to a campsite on the outskirts of Southampton and a night in the van ready for the run on Sunday.
It’s a 2 lap course including running through St Mary’s footie ground and a bit of a climb over the bridge. I wasn’t sure how it would go as training as been a bit sporadic but having run the half marathon last year at least I knew the course.
I found it really hard going and almost jacked it in at the end of the 1st lap so happy to have finished and I’ll take 03:49.
Now I remember why I waited 2 years! Thanks Jo and Ruby for the support and great run by Andy
Ilminster 10km
From Margarita: The Ilminster 10km today for us. Well what can I say about this one? You start in the middle of the field and then you're hit with the first hill. Much better race conditions than last year. It wasn't so gusty wind and a lovely sunny day. Lots of hills on route but overall a lovely course with lovely views. Definitely one to do all supporting ferne animal sanctuary. Lovely goodie bag at the end and a bottle of cider as well as a medal with a bottle opener attached. And I knocked 5 minutes off my time from last year #improving. Fantastic race with fab goodies and medal.
Weekend Running
From Graham: A great turnout for the South Petherton 22mile run. Everyone came back smiling, great route, a well organised event, with brilliant weather.
Monsal Trail Half Marathon
From Darren: Afternoon report . Monsal Trail Half Marathon, navigating the old London to Manchester railway line which takes you through some epic tunnels and beautiful scenery, nestled in the heart of the Peak District. Myself and Rachael Quick attended this one, representing YTRRC. The start was at a lovely 10am but I had to be bold and brave the cold (still not quite into summer yet) but I was determined not to wear a jacket pre race . This was an out and back route with the first half uphill and the second half downhill. Sadly, no podium this time . But Rachael did manage a PB. I would highly recommend this if anyone is in the area in the future (Bakewell, and yes this is where you can get some tasty Bakewell tarts ). Goodluck to all runners tomorrow in Vienna and Southampton and everywhere else on their epic runs!
Race to the Castle
From Terry: So first Lancaster Races race this year, Race to the Castle. From the Holiday Inn to Lancaster Castle, it was good to be back at one of their friendly and well organised events. Great value as well. At the end of the race you get a voucher, this gives you £10 off any Lancaster Races event if you pay cash on the day. So basically it costs a tenner including a great medal. Participation was in doubt right up to 15 mins before after tweaking my back, but I got round in 45 seconds slower than last year. I'll take that, 54.49. This race is predominantly flat, but has an evil climb up the castle at 6km, the weather was beautifulbut with a stiff chilly breeze. My first event for a while before PenSelwood next week. See you all there.
Park Runs
From Daphne: Just me at Torbay Velopark ParkRun. But stayed on to watch No 1 son race after.
From Chris: Weymouth park run today. Didn't expect to see anyone today, but it was so good to see everyone in the Yeovil colours before the start. Even better to cheer them all as they crossed line. Welldone team Yeovil Town RRC. Would have happily stayed and joined the breakfast club, but had to dash off for rugby match. Sadly that ended with a trip to hospital with a dislocated shoulder. oh the joy! Welldone everyone this weekend.
From Terry: Jersey Farm Parkrun, Tourist 18th
From Tim: Parkrun Tourism. Went for a V and came back with a D. Donaupark parkrun in Vienna for four of tomorrow's marathon runners. Most of the runners were from the UK which had the race briefers struggling to give it in English. We all took it easy using it as a leg stretch and enjoyed the 3 laps around the park. Tour of the city this afternoon then off for pasta somewhere. And yes it does look like I'm running with a parkrun flag.
