YTRRC does the New York Marathon 2024
From Rich: An early start with alarms set for 5am, the 5 Yeovil runners met in reception for the journey to the start on Staten Island via coach, ferry and finally a ride on the fleet of iconic yellow school buses arriving in plenty of time on what was a very well organised and slick operation. Enjoying free coffee and bagels in the holding area we sat in the sun to try and keep warm on a very chilly morrning. First runners away in wave 2 were myself, Nicki and Simon Rowbottom followed an hour later by Jeff Watson and Nolan Lewis in wave 4. This certainly isn’t a flat marathon course with the long bridges making it hard work on the legs but the support is absolutely amazing with an estimated crowd of 2 million New Yorkers cheering you along.
I was first Yeovil home in 3:38:10 followed closely by Nicki Rowbottom 3:42:07 ( we had been sided by side up to about mile 18), Simon Rowbottom 3:48:53, Nolan Lewis 4:27:17 and Jeff Watson 4:40:42 a great effort all round on a leg sapping course, the hills in Central Park from mile 23 really do make for a tough finish.
It really is a fantastic event and if anyone is thinking of giving it a go then go for it, you won’t regret it.
Needless to say after a period of abstinence the drinks flowed until the early hours of Monday morning!
Thanks as well to the support team of Mafalda, Sarah & Jen.
The Cornish Marathon
From Rachael: Well done to the Cornish Marathon runners on a very hilly course!
From Ann: Well thats the Cornish marathon in the bag, 4 hours 36.55 minutes, extremely proud after the ultra last week . Thank you Lindsay Saunders for keeping me going great company for the whole marathon xx
From Lindsay: Cornish marathon done. One of the hilliest marathons around but so good to see the Jamaica inn at around 17 miles. Had to hold back a few tears. So good to run with @currlyann123 as we kept eachother going and to honest we smashed it considering we did a 36 mile ultra last Sunday. Don't think my finish time was far off my London marathon time lol. Now enjoying a cider and pasty. That's my club hat in the bag and now to look forward to our holibobs with @rabbitspawsw xx

Sorry I don't have the other race number to track
Exmouth Toffee Apple Challenge!
From Andy: A little last minute but I fancied a half marathon with 'options' this weekend .... step forward the Exmouth Toffee Apple Challenge! 5.3k laps / gentle hills up and down ... and after 4 laps, carried on for another 4 ... and completed my first marathon Yey!
Herepath Half
From Margarita: Off to the forest today for the Herepath Half (ish) 13.7 miles trail marathon. Four of us braved this race today, Dom Rowe, Michaela Hurd, Kelly Rowsell and myself. This race was following the herepath Half trail, off we started with high spirits of what was to come. Kelly, Michaela and Kelly shooted off and enjoyed tackling the trails. We encountered fog, mist, mud, hills, more mud and hills and some questionable mud. I did enjoy this race but it was a challenge. Another half complete.

Weekend Running
From Matt: Lluf Ytnom recce run done! Yunmi Jang took ages parking then Robert Adams and Matthew Bambury needed a wee. Finally we got going and visited the Tower (sadly not on the official course), then off to muddy paths and inclines.
Bungy Williams rolled in the mud, followed by Robert Adams, and then Honey, Tim Willis's dog joined in. Off round by the Monument and then a little confusion about starts and finishes, especially when doing the route backwards having started part way round ???
Chris Homewood was steaming up those hills, while Steve Sparks was clearly just cruising...that should be a good challenge on race day!
Towards the end, Matt managed to blag a date for next week - He's still got it!!!
Coffee and cake in the Kings Arms (Guinness for Rob!!!) and off home, or at least 25mins fighting through Yeovil!
Bungy Williams is a better cameraman, but there's a few below!
Oh, and does anyone know why Robert Adams's Jelly Babies are so warm????
Thanks gang!
From Ali: Sunday 10K run this morning taking in a few alleys.
From Lelsey: Small groups for our 10 milers this morning. Several deserted us to do a Full Monty recce (why would they choose lots of mud and hills instead of our road and hills route ). We had four in our group and managed to meet the Inbetweeners to get a group photo.
From Mark: Cavity Trays Run with Tim and Sharon. Thanks Sharon and all for the run this morning.
Park Runs
From Adam: Buggy Park Run at Weymouth with family, followed by visit to a model railway exhibition and of course breakfast!
From Gareth: Rachael Jones, Kate Gowers, Steve Lye and myself travelled to Devizes to do Quakers Walk Parkrun this morning. This may only be my 10th Parkrun but even I know that it’s club vests on the first Parkrun of the month Great course, great company and the breakfast was banging (sorry no photos of the food, we were too hungry).
From Margarita: St Mary's parkrun today. Only Yeovil vest runner.
From Terry: Moors Valley Park Run, very busy, course B, very enjoyable, surprisingly my first time here. 26.43. Happy with that after a slow start.
From Terry: Kaz and I headed off to Exmouth Parkrun to bag an E
From Kev: Will Arnold and Lauren visited Cardiff too. Yeovil Town RRC get about.
From Taryn: Great turn out of the green and white here at frogMary. 1st time - 1st in my age category- happy with that. Great running all
PUB RUN – LIMINGTON – (31ST OCTOBER 2024)
From Mark: There was only me tonight in the not so fast group, so I had a solo run. I just did the Limington, Ilchester, Yeovilton loop in the clockwise direction. I enjoyed the run which felt quite atmospheric with it being Halloween, and I half expected someone in a costume to jump out of a hedge. It never happened.
After the run, I joined Phil and Guy for the meal in the pub. Thanks Phil for organising.
I can’t show a map because my watch and phone have fallen out, and are not talking for some reason. I’ve tried the usual fixes including “removing paired devices from my watch”, and re-pairing in the phone Suunto app. The Suunto app finds the watch but wont pair with it. Please does anyone have a solution?
